Emerging Markets Competition 2012

截止日期:2012年01月31日

申请资格:在读本科生或研究生

主办机构:LSE Emerging Markets Society和Credit Suisse

最高奖项:a top-class dinner with a Credit Suisse Managing Director

In partnership with Credit Suisse, the LSE Emerging Markets Society is proud to offer you the exclusive opportunity to participate in our worldwide sutdent competition. Your work will be judged by Credit Suisse's award-winning emerging markets team, and you will have the opportunity to win incredible prizes from Credit Suisse. This is your chance to showcase your flair and passion for financial markets, and to demonstrate real, original talent. You will also test your analytical rigour and ability to think creatively and practically.

You are challenged to pick an unidentified investment opportunity of your choice within any emerging market, and you must explain why it is such an attractive opportunity by answering all three of the below questions.

The judging criteria will assess how original, feasible and well-researched your proposal is. Your idea can be anything from an industry to a project or commodity. The choice is yours. Write about anything from luxury art in China, natural gas in Russia, to lithium mining in Bolivia and mobile networks in Dhaka. For example, you could pick a new but niche private-sector infrastructure project in a specific emerging market city.

Task Format

Each question has a strict 300 word limit, and you must write in full prose sentences.

 Question 1:

What is your opportunity, and why is it so attractive? Why has this idea has not been pursued yet, and why is it now attractive?

 Question 2:

How can an investor realise this opportunity, and what returns can be expected? If you feel equity is the best way to profit from this opportunity, which companies would you invest in and why? If a more direct investment strategy is appropriate, such as venture capital or a buyout, explain why this is appropriate and how this can be accomplished. What is the timeline of the investment? Is there a specific catalyst that will allow investors to realise capital appreciation, or is the opportunity focused on a long-term income stream?

 Question 3:

Evaluate the downside risks of your investment, sector, and market. How does your strategy overcome criticisms or issues that similar investments have faced?

Judged by Credit Suisse
