Genesis is a social entrepreneurship competition that aims at bringing about a confluence of students, entrepreneurs, NGOs, innovators, incubators, corporates and financers and creating a holistic platform for the initiation and development of exemplary social enterprise models.

Spread over 3 - 4 months, the contest provides a stage for those interested in the social entrepreneurship field to:
Come up with innovations and business ideas that can bring about radical improvements, catering to specific problems faced by the society. Get your ideas reviewed by experienced VCs, incubators and successful social entrepreneurs, refine and fine-tune business-plans and models. Find like-minded people on the forum and build up a strong team, collaborate with mentors and financers. Face the stumbling blocks on the path to enterprise development through strong backing and guidance by our associate organizations.
The competition is open to all students and working professionals (including NGOs) who have ideas that are innovative, feasible and can benefit society. The only restriction is that 50% of the registered members of every team that enters this competition should be students. Here at Genesis, entrepreneurship takes an altruistic turn.

Participation :
The competition is open to both students and professionals. The only restriction is that every team should have a minimum of 50% student members on board. There is no restriction on the team size. The team can be composed of a single individual or a group of individuals. Teams that have got their company/startup registered cannot participate. Contestants who have registered for Genesis 2012 can take part in other business plan competitions as well. More than one plan can be submitted. But a separate registration is required for each plan submitted. Students can be part of more than one team. One Team can submit only one entry. There is no restriction on the number of entries from one institute. Teams that have been incubated or currently incubating in any other institute cannot participate in Genesis 2013. Rules of the next round will be informed to the selected team members.
Submission Rules :
The teams have to use the format given in the site and no other format is acceptable. The teams are advised to send in PDF format to the address mentioned below. The Teams have to submit their entry by mailing their sending their Executive Summary to the address

. The name of the file should be 'Genesis12_ExecutiveSummary_TeamName' and the subject of the mail should be Genesis 2012 Executive Summary Entry_ Team Name :. The Executive Summary should contain the details of the person to whom all the contacts will be made even though the contact details of all other team members are provided. All notifications will be mailed to the person so mentioned. If it is not mentioned then the first contact ID appearing in the summary will be noted as default contact ID.
Format :
One coverpage including your Summary name, team members and your contact information. The summary should be of maximum 3 pages excluding the coverpage. Page size should be A4, text should be atleast 11 pts in size and use Times new Roman font preferably Smart shapes are allowed but photographs or any type of clip art is not allowed.
Evaluation
The plans should be built around socially relevant ideas. The ventures proposed should not just be innovative, feasible and sustainable but should primarily focus on bringing about a social change. Entries should involve original ideas and should have an innovative value (an innovative concept provides a solution for a new need, or offers a new way of fulfilling an existing need. The concept makes a clear advancement compared to existing products, services or technologies). Miscellaneous Entries submitted after the deadlines will not be considered. Winning contestants must appear in person or a point person should be sent to collect the prize money. They will be notified in due time. The judges, mentors and the organizers will take the utmost care in handling the entries, and will guarantee the utmost confidence. Steps would be taken to ensure confidentiality. Contestants must accept that their personal data will be available for statistical purposes. Rules of the contest are binding.
